Scouting Dues

People who are interested in becoming involved with Scouting often ask what it costs to join and what does the money go towards.

Total Dues

2023-2024
$ 225 Annual
  • National Dues $80
  • Council Dues $39
  • Pack Dues $81
  • New Member Fee $25
12-MONTHS
National & Council Dues

There are two types of membership dues.

Dues paid to the BSA national organization are paid for twelve months on an annual schedule.

These dues cover expenditures at the national level for things like insurance, BSA websites, Staff, program materials, and more. At the pack level we don’t typically see a lot of this other than insurance however as you get involved with activities beyond the pack the benefits become more apparent.

None of the money paid for National and Council dues goes to Pack 175.

These fees are payable when you complete the application to join Pack 175. They are typically paid when submitting an online application and renewing your membership annually.

Pack Dues

Pack dues cover build kits and awards for all of our special events (Pinewood Derby, Raingutter Regatta, Rocket Rally, Blue & Gold Banquet, etc.) as well as a Activity t-shirt for each Scout, and all awards that Scouts earn throughout the year.

Certain activities, like the Family Camp trip, special events like field trips, or a summer camp organized by the district or council, may have additional costs associated.

We ask that initial pack dues be paid as your application is submitted. It’s typically ok to attend 2 or 3 times before submitting an application We want to confirm your scout likes the program before you spend a lot of money on dues and Uniforms.

Pack dues pay for our program for the whole Scouting year, which covers from June 1 through May 31 of the following year.

After your initial payment of National and Pack dues, all subsequent dues can be paid for by participating in our fall Trail’s End popcorn fundraiser.

Please talk to your den leader or pack leadership for more details.

Pack dues are typically paid with a check made payable to Pack 175.

Pack dues are due 4 weeks after joining and then June 1st for each subsequent year.

Fundraising

Fundraisers are not mandatory for Pack 175. We do make them available fo anyone who wishes to participate.

For Individual Contributor fundraisers we award the scouts individual contribution in the form of “Scout Bucks”. Typically this means all of the profit earned by your scout can be used to pay future scouting dues and expenses. If your scout transfers or crosses over to another unit the money can transfer as well.

For Pack fundraisers, which are always identified as a pack fundraiser in advance, all funds go towards our pack goals. These can vary each year but often include of setting expenses to keeping dues low or towards gear. We try to save a portion of this money for our capitol project of a new storage building as well.

Parents can also participate in additional fundraisers such as working concession stands for large events. This opportunity has the ability to easily pay for all expenses including summer camp very quickly.

Our goal is to gather funds for a shared storage building and trailer with Troop 175 but we do this through savings and fundraising not charging extra dues. The fees listed in the pack dues cover all costs. No additional payments are needed.
